I saw a bigfoot up close around I would say 5 years ago in northern lower Michigan, at Presque Isle which is about 20+ plus miles north of Alpena, MI. I had been walking thru a tree clearing coming back from a rocky shoreline (Lake Huron) and had been wading out in the water around a 1/2 hour to :45 minutes. As I was coming thru these trees to reach my car I had the very distinct feeling of being watched. Every now and then, I would hear some tree/twig snaps or multiple snaps that sounded like great weight was being applied to whatever it was. Other moments I would also hear what sounded like whole small sections of trees being moved or pushed out of the way. It was a little un-nerving as it was clearly evident something was just inside this treeline about maybe 2-300 feet away. The sounds kept up with my walking and never at any point, became distant or going away from me. The only thing I could think was perhaps either it was a deer or bear. I remember after I finally got to my car which was parked by a lighthouse, I felt relieved but didn't know necessarily why. After I got in and started it up, I turned the radio on and drove away at a slow rate of speed. About 3-400 feet down the road I noticed a figure out of the left side of my vehicle standing flush in front of the tree line. The treeline I would estimate was about 100 feet from my vehicle, if that. It completely startled me and I could not believe-initially on that what I was looking at was really, real. It stood around 7-8 feet tall, completely dark with black fur and had a huge torso with massive shoulders and the arms hung down at it's side- far too long for a bear or human of any kind. It followed me with it's eyes as I drove past. The face was by far one of the biggest impressions that still stays with me today, the hair (or fur) was flat or had a groomed like appearance and especially the eyes were very piercing as it looked directly at me. The face had a flat nose and it also resembled that of a man. The time of this sighting was around between 9-10:00 pm with a full moon outside and clear sky with no clouds of any sort. After I first saw it, I immediately slammed on my brakes and came to a dead stop in the road. I had to re-gain my thoughts and composure which all took a few seconds to try and register what I had just taken a good look at. It will be a night I will always remember and it definitely was not a bear on it's hind-legs or anything else. It was completely bi-pedal and stood entirely up right with a very straight posture. For a few moments I had thought I would turn my car around and aim it towards the tree line and put on my hi-beam headlights but something inside of me said to just go on and don't mess with this "thing" or situation. It is not in your best interest to do so. I was very glad when I finally reached (and saw) the lights from the north edge of town, coming back into Alpena. At the time I had finished a week long of training and excercises with the Michigan Air National Guard at Phelps-Collins ANGB-Alpena CRTC (Combat Readiness Training Center). I was not drinking at the time (as I don't drink) or smoking either as I have never that in my life as well.

Wow!!
Lloyd, thinking back on this - Did you smell anything unusual? You said you got the feeling it would not be in your best interest to try to get a better look at this thing. Can you expand on that just a little bit, on that feeling you had? Did it feel like you were reaching a logical conclusion to a set of circumstances, or did the feeling just APPEAR in your mind? Also - You might want to register, giving an e-mail address, so folks here can ask you details in a less public manner - The address can be hotmail, gmail, etc., and be as anonymous as you wish - |

Sorry it's taken so long to respond back, I actually had forgotten I had posted my sighting onto this website. To try and answer some of your questions: No, I never did smell anything un-usual as I generally have a pretty good sense for that and would have picked up on it right away. I suppose because of the nature of seeing it so suddenly- completely overwhelmed and startled my senses, it immediately came to mind that I should just go and leave whatever it was that I just saw, completely alone- with no questions asked. I've been a few times in recent years back up to the area where I seen it and the treeline where it was standing was (is) a lot closer to the road than what I had originally thought or remembered. So basically when I saw it, it was for all intense purposes- standing practically on top of me. It could have maybe taken a step or two (if that) out of the treeline and we would have been nose to nose, so-to-speak. The look it gave me (I believe just a natural look, perhaps for the creature) just gave the impression of meaness and ferocity, like I mean "business" and you had better not try anything funny with me. It looked (the face) flat out nasty, and judging from it's size, could have took a nudge or two on my two-door chevy lumina I had at the time and at least flipped it on it's side probably with not a whole great deal of effort- if it had been inclined to doing so and felt threatened. I think the feeling I had was maybe a combination of the two examples you gave, a logical conclusion plus a "feeling" that this does not feel or seem right, in everyway possible. I usually have a pretty curious nature about myself so to have experienced this, was truly something completely different and out of the ordinary. I've thought more times than I can remember, "what if" that night, say I had backed my car up instead and looked once more but if it had moved towards me (if I would have been that brave) I would have probably died of shock or passed out with no problem, sounds a bit like an exageration but not really. My personal email is: vernorsgnome@hotmail.com, should you have any other thoughts and/or questions. Thanks for the one's you did pose.
